Gender diversity at Origin

At Origin, diversity and inclusion are central to the way we work. We know diverse workplaces create good energy, by allowing our people to bring their whole selves to work. We also know that diversity fosters better ideas, collaboration, decision making and helps us better understand our customers. And gender diverse companies are more likely to outperform the competition.

We’re building a workplace that supports flexible work arrangements to encourage more people to choose a career with Origin. They’re just a few of the reasons we’re a LinkedIn Australian Top Company and recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

Head of Digital Product, Marketing Automation, and Digital Analytics (Melbourne)

“I told my leaders that I wanted a challenge. Now I’m leading a team of 40 people.”

My career at Origin started 11 years ago and I’ve held nine different roles in that time. Every day is fast-paced and challenging – just how I want it to be!

A few years ago, I let some of our leaders know that I wanted a new challenge – a big challenge in the digital space. They helped me find my next role and today I’m leading a team of almost 40 people.

If you take initiative at Origin, you’ll be rewarded. I love creating value for the organisation but it’s the challenge, variety and values of Origin that have kept me here. We’re a values driven organisation which means that how you get your job done is just as important as what you achieve.

Cost & Contracts Manager (Brisbane)

"Despite language barriers, Origin gave me a career, when others wouldn't give me an interview."

Trying to get a job was a challenge. English was my second language and while my communication skills were improving, I needed practice in a business environment. I was proud of my professional achievements in my home country, but they didn’t count for much because I didn’t have a working history in Australia.  I was finding it tough to get an interview, let alone a job!

Fast forward eight years, and Origin has not only given me a start, I now have a career. It’s a big, diverse organisation that creates opportunities for our people to learn, grow and step up. I have had the opportunity to grow professionally while also extending my family. Origin provides a flexible environment that allows our people to achieve their personal goals too. I’m proof of that!

Origin is a place where managers are encouraged to support the growth of their people. I feel fortunate for the support of my managers – but that’s just how it is at Origin. Now, my goal is to provide the same opportunities for the people in my team.

Head of Wholesale Development (Sydney)

“From day one, Origin provided meaningful flexibility so I could finish my Engineering degree.”

I joined Origin during my final year of university in 2004. Flexibility was rare then, but I was supported from day one to finish my Engineering degree.

From my first role as an Analyst in Origin’s Pricing team to my current role as Head of Wholesale Development, I’ve thrived on the fast paced, innovative and constantly changing environment. It’s a safe place to raise ideas and challenge the norm – I love that about Origin!

The team around me has grown through acquisitions, and my team at home has grown too. At Origin, I have the flexibility and autonomy I need to balance life at home and work.

What’s next for me? I’m excited to learn more about how disruptive technologies will play out in Origin’s future. The energy industry is so dynamic – and I feel like I can make a real difference here.

What we do

Jen White

Retail Collections & Advocacy Manager (Adelaide)

“I’ve held numerous roles that have pushed me out of my comfort zone.”

I joined Origin in 2003 as a Customer Service Consultant in the frontline answering customer calls, now in 2019 I am a Department Manager.  Origin provides a vital service to Australians, and from day one, I felt like I was making a difference.

I’ve worked with so many great people – that’s one of the best things about Origin. Over the years, having people who trusted in my ability has led to me having numerous roles that have pushed me out of my comfort zone, which is where I have had most of my learnings.

Origin is always evolving, and that creates opportunities for someone like me. I recommend Origin as a great place to work for anyone with ambition and is able to rise to any challenge!
